6A - Identifying Opportunities in Trends



Opportunity 1

I believe there is a opportunity for a subscription program for plants. I found this opportunity in many households. Most houses have a couple pants in pots on the front porch or a plant in the house. Most of the time these plants look awful because people do not know how to take care of them. People want new plants in there house but often they forget to go to the store and buy some. If people could get new plants sent to them monthly through a subscription. This way people do not have to worry about taking care of the plants because they will be getting new ones in the mail each month. The potential customer for this product would be anyone who has plants at there house whether this be inside, on the patio or porch. People who be able to get a variety of plants and see which ones live best at there house. Also they would be able to discover new plants that they may not have even knew existed. This opportunity is easy, the concept is simple. I would create a subscription program to ship people new plants each month. I saw this opportunity from my own house. On my front porch I always have two plants by the door. Over time these plants begin to look over grown and dead. I always think that fresh plants look the best, so if there was a way for me just to get shipped plants monthly it would keep my front porch looking good.

I see a opportunity with carbon footprints. Carbon footprints are complicated and often can be inaccurate. While it is easy to calculate how much carbon you are putting into the air, it can be difficult to find ways in your life to lessen it. I believe there there is a opportunity to have a company "audit" your life and see ways in which you are using carbon. It doesn't have to be complicated, just let people know ways in which they are using carbon in there daily ways. This company could provide solutions on how to reduce carbon specific to a person life. A prototypical customer would be people who want to save money and reduce there carbon foot print. I believe it is relatively easy to exploit this idea. It just takes one person to be able to audit people lives and it can expand from there. I thought of this idea just because whenever I would do my carbon foot prints, I was overwhelmed with just how much there was to it. I wanted to reduce my carbon foot print, however I just couldn't find many ways specific to my life.



Opportunity 3

I believe there is a opportunity to create a something that entertains dogs without people having to play with them. People lives are busier than ever. Many people get dogs and would love to give them the attention they need. However with dogs wanting constant attention and humans being busy with there lives. There is a need for a product to entertain dogs. The toy would be a product that throws balls for dogs, and once the dog drops the ball back off at the launcher, it would re throw the ball for the dog. I believe that the prototypical customer would be anyone who feels that there dog needs more attention or entertainment. Dogs could get entertainment without people having to play fetch with them. The opportunity is relatively easy once the product is developed. It is a simple product however just something that can automatically launch balls for dogs. I felt the opportunity exist from my experience with dogs. I always get caught up in my day to day life and I want to give them attention. However sometimes I just forget too. I saw the opportunity to provide something for dogs that entertains them without people having to be there.

Opportunity 4

I believe a opportunity exist for a app that connects you with people of simpler interests or hobbies. This is not a dating app. This app is to connect you to people to become friends and do stuff with.  I believe a opportunity exist since people are now using there phones to socialize rather than going out and meeting people. This allows you to find people whom you can do stuff with. I believe the likely customer for this app is anyone who has a hobby or is looking to hang out with people. This idea is relatively easy to exploit. All it takes it good branding of the app and getting out to people on a large scale. I saw this opportunity just from listening to friends who want to find people to hang out with doing similar things. May other people see flaws in this idea. I saw a opportunity for this in my interest to fish. I always want to go fishing with people, it is just hard meeting people who like to do similar fishing.

  1. Hey Dylan, I think you are on to something with the plant subscription service. I personally find it to be a pain to have to go to stores and pick up new plants once certain ones die. I would like to see you test the market for this and see what evidence you could find out that supports the overall need for this type of service. I no doubt would subscribe. I also like the idea of a app for meeting people with your same interests and hobbies. As you become older it is harder and harder to make new friends. I believe a app like this could help solve that problem and def help people become more active. Again, I think you would need to find evidence this problem exists and take it from there.
