21A - Reading Reflection No.2

I read The Art of Social Media by Guy Kawasaki
1) What was the general theme or argument of the book?
The general theme of the book was how to be better on social media and make post that people want to see.
2) How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003?
This book as able to enhance what I am learning in ENT 3003 by a lot. I was glad to read this book since I am doing a online plant service for my assignments. I believe the knowledge I learned from this reading will help me a lot if I start this service.
3) If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve?
I would have everyone make a insta gram post, with a picture and caption. I would then do peer reviews on the instagram post so people get to see what others liked and hated.
4) What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from your expectations?
My biggest surprise was when I learned how much people care about of the quality of pictures you use on your social media platforms. I also did not know that the filters have such a large role either.

  1. This sounds like a great book Dylan. I need to become better with social media as I know it is looked at by many employers. I did not realize that quality of pictures or filters were such a large part of what people look at and take into account. I think the peer exercise would be really informative because it would show people if they were needing a lot of improvement on their social media posts or if they are already on the right track.

  2. Hey Dylan,
I loved this book especially because it spoke about a topic so hot in this turn of the century. People don't realize that their social media has a powerful influence on every aspect of their life. From employers to family to friends the type of picture and content you post influences the way they see you. However, I was unfamiliar with the fact that filters also took a large influence. This opens up my eyes in a big way.

  3. Hello Dylan, the book you read sounds very Interesting and is really important in todays world. I really like the assignment that you would assign because there is no better way to learn from something then doing it yourself and receiving feedback on what you did. The best way to get better and improve is to practice and that is exactly what your assignment would do. I don't know much but I know there is a lot of thought that go into big post and little details are very important when trying to achieve goals.

  4. Hey Dylan!

Based on the information you gave me, I know I would like this book. I am a PR major and I am studying a lot about social media. I have to check this book out! There is a lot more than people just liking the quality of a photo, though. It comes down to checking out your competition and also increasing your platforms engagement. I am sure you know all of that from the book! I think you can use social media to help your business too.
